Tyre Rebound
During practice it is essential to come up with coaching ideas which empower your players to make their own decisions, “Tyre Rebound” (see diagram attached) is one of my favorites. A tire is placed just outside the D players are divided into pairs, one of the players then hit the ball into the tyre (in this case the red player) the two players then react to the rebound as they see fit, the idea being for one to pick up the rebound (in this case the red player) and to lay-off to the other player (in this case the blue player) who has got into a scoring position.
What skills are practiced?
ðHitting the ball accurately
ðPicking up a rebound
ðPassing accurately
ðPlaying pass into goal
What is learned?
ð After playing the ball it is essential to not stop playing but to react to the result of your play.
What can go wrong?
(Things going wrong provide the best learning opportunities)
ðBall rebounding straight back and both players try to play it, teaching the importance of calling for the ball.
ðBlue player plays ball wide of goal or hits upright, where is the red player? This “mistake” highlights importance of continuing to play after you lay-off the ball.
How to get more out?
ðBlue player plays cross ball necessitating red player to finish off the move by scoring.
