Defensive Zones @ Short Corners

Short Corner
Defensive Zones
It is very important that players defending the short corner understand their areas they are responsible to defend. Once a player understands this the coach can hold them accountable for goals resulting from Short corners.

I use a triangle formation, it is essential that the coach identifies the right players to execute the defensive pattern effectively.

 Chaser
(In my case the right wing)
Responsibility is to rush the player receiving the short corner. Her primary objective is to prevent the receiver from taking a shot at goal; her secondary objective is to prevent/intercept the receiver laying-off to another player.
The Chaser must be fast and brave

Back-up Chaser
Primary objective is to mark player that is played into space by the player receiving the ball. The secondary objective is to mark the P-Spot.
The Back-Up Chaser must be able to read the game in order to foresee the lay-off and act accordingly.

Near Post
Primary objective is to protect near post. Secondary objective to mark player taking the short corner if they receive return pass. Third objective is covering right hand area inside the D. This player is also responsible for clearing the rebound off the keeper if the play is from the left.

Far Post
Primary objective is to protect far post. Secondary objective is covering left hand area inside the D. This player is also responsible for clearing the rebound off the keeper if the play is from the Right.
